Dr. Daniel Long

My journey to discovery of chiropractic, like a lot of people’s, started with an injury. In high school I ran cross-country and during a run I had an intense pain in my knee that developed and would come back shortly after starting again. I went to my doctor who gave me pain medication and told me stay off it for two weeks and come back if it still hurts, but there was no hands-on work with my knee. I followed these orders with no change and got a second opinion resulting in a diagnosis of tendonitis and received some solid instruction on how to care and manage my knee. As one who was interested in the medical field as a potential career this experience discouraged me from looking further as it seemed pain medication wasn’t a good long term solution. After high school I went on a service mission and accompanied a friend to his appointment with a chiropractic doctor.  Watching the doctor perform his craft, while answering and explaining everything he did, shifted my thinking about patient care and before even being adjusted, I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor.

I obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology at Brigham Young University- Idaho in preparation for chiropractic training at Life Chiropractic College West in the San Francisco Bay Area where I learned the art, science and philosophy of chiropractic. I was instructed in many techniques and find value in all of them but the one that stood out to me the most was Chiropractic Biophysics. The balance of acknowledging and working with the body’s innate ability to heal and create a long-term structural change, all supported by peer-reviewed science, really stood out to me as a method of creating optimum change in the quality of life for the patient…not just for the short term, but for the rest of their life.

The ability to help people express their full potential of life without the need for drugs or surgery in a way that is engaging and personal is a great blessing in my life and I wouldn’t want to do anything else. One of the greatest pleasures of being a chiropractor is helping others realize their potential so they can do the things they find meaningful for a lot longer, whether that is participating in a sport or being able to spend more quality time with their family in the future.
